LESERBREV Roar Aspli: A comment to Letizia Jaccheri
(24.11.08, 14:12)
A comment to the letter from Letizia Jaccheri concerning IT and processes around open source. It’s correct that we don’t have any approved policy for open source. This is due to several reasons; functionality, availability in the market and our distributed model for IT governance.
For web-based services we have standardized on support of two web-clients, Mozilla and Explorer. For other services we don’t have any policy so far. By implementation of new services, focus has been on functionality, interoperability and cost more than open source vs. Microsoft. But all these perspectives are connected to each other.
As known from NOKIOS, the ministry (FAD) is preparing a policy document about a public, common IT-architecture. Use of open source is focused. This is a document which will concern us when finalized.
At campus Prosessutvalget is preparing a roadmap for IT and IT infrastructure. This is an approach to develop stronger IT governance and a common IT policy and architecture for NTNU. One of the architectural issues is to be about open source.
